How to watch Netflix using HTML5 in Safari

Today, I’ll show you how to watch Netflix on Safari using HTML5.

To view Netflix on Safari using HTML5, you must have the following hardware specifications:

Follow the steps below to ensure your Mac computer can use the HTML5 player.

  1. Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen.
  2. Select About This Mac.
  3. Leave the window open and check to make sure your computer has the following:
    • Early 2011 model or newer Mac
    • OS X 10.10 Yosemite or newer OS
    • Certain late Intel Sandy Bridge or any Intel Ivy Bridge/Haswell processor

If your computer doesn’t meet the requirements, you can use an alternate browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Opera) or install the Silverlight Player to continue watching Netflix.

**Streaming in 4K requires an HDCP 2.2 compliant connection to a 4K capable display, Intel’s 7th generation Core CPU, and the latest Windows updates. Check with the manufacturer of your system to verify specifications.

In the Hackintosh, Netflix may not use HTML5 or play at all when using the Intel embedded graphics card.

Unlike the actual Mac, the Hackintosh does not have the ability to automatically change the graphics card.

However, streaming videos such as YouTube can be watched with HTML5 without problems even if the integrated graphics card is enabled.

Likewise, the inability to use all of the features when viewing a video on iTunes is a problem when using Intel embedded graphics and external graphics simultaneously.

I’ve tried several ways to solve this problem, but until now, the only solution is to disable Intel embedded graphics.

Senario1: If you’re using my Hackintosh Guide’s EFI folder, you can enjoy Netflix on Safari with just a few clicks to change boot option in Clover.

Senario2: If not, you will need to download the required kexts, place those in the specified folder and modify the Clover boot options.

 For Senario1
a. Reboot your computer and change your iGPU or Integrated GPU to be disabled.
b. Save the setting (hotkey is F10) and boot your Hackintosh.
c. Open Clover Configurator
d. Go to Boot section in the left sidebar.
f. Check ‘-shikioff’ in the Arguments and make empty in Custom Flags box.
g. Reboot and you good to go with Netflix in Safari!

 For Senario2
a. Download the latest proper kexts for your graphics card.
b. Mount your EFI and put your downloaded kexts to EFI>Clover>Kexts>Other/ folder
c. And do it Senario1’s order.
Have Fun!

I tried this on my hackintosh, running Mojave without success.
I got Haswell 4770k, AMD R9 290, and I have disabled the iGPU in BIOS, and also set the bootflag -shikioff (and I have Whatevergreen + Lilu).
I even tried changing to the iMacPro1,1 in SMBIOS because it does not have any iGPU.

I still get prompted with the Netflix help each time I try to play something.

Do you have any idea how to make it work? Does it work for you still?
